Relevance of the Caste System Today
Although Sikhism was originally designed to do away with the Hindu caste system, its origins were so deep that this is, to this day, impossible. It is the equality it offered that attracted so many low-caste Hindus and Muslims to the religion. The reality however is that the caste system has become hard to abolish. The system itself worked very well in India for thousands of years as a way of division of labour amongst the people, without it there would have been chaos and war. We cannot deny however that some people were a lot worse of than others because of it and that nowadays its relevance is questionable. Some use it for a feeling of superiority over others and others, typically of lower-caste descent, condemn it.
